The production team behind the latest sequel in the Star Trek franchise has confirmed part of the movie will be shot in Dubai later this year.
‘Star Trek Beyond’ – its reported name – is the 13th film of the Star Trek franchise and is the third since it was revived in 2009 with a new cast and under the helm of director and producer J.J. Abrams, who also filmed scenes from the latest upcoming Star Wars film in the UAE. The second film in the revamped series, ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’, was released in 2013. According to reports, ‘Star Trek Beyond’ is due to be released in July 2016.
Preparation for filming is currently underway in the Canadian town of Squamish Boulders, British Columbia, just north of Vancouver.
Speaking to US media earlier this week, the film company behind the latest Star Trek project, Skydance Productions, confirmed that filming would take place in Dubai.
“We start shooting in 10 days and we’re shooting in Vancouver and Dubai,” Skydance Productions CEO David Ellison told film blog Slashfilm in an interview.
