Kremlin releases photo of Vladimir Putin celebrating his birthday with Gerhard Schröder

The Kremlin press service has released a photograph of Russian President Vladimir Putin with former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, taken during celebrations for Putin’s birthday on 7 October.
“Gerhard Schröder was with Vladimir Putin as the head of state celebrated his birthday yesterday,” the Kremlin said in a post on Max.
According to the Kremlin, Putin learned of Schröder’s presence in Moscow through media reports. The former German chancellor had travelled to the Russian capital on business related to the Globus retail chain. Putin subsequently invited Schröder, whom he considers a friend, to a private meeting.
Earlier reports said Schröder had visited Moscow for talks with Globus executives. Market participants interpreted the former chancellor’s involvement as an attempt to protect the company’s assets from a possible transfer to temporary state management, similar to previous cases involving Auchan and Lemana PRO.
