UAE President reaffirms commitment to peace
President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to working with international partners to advance peace, security, stability, trust, and development worldwide.
Addressing the 52nd G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, Sheikh Mohamed thanked French President Emmanuel Macron for hosting the gathering and said he was pleased to meet with partners during a period of significant global challenges.
He noted that the region is experiencing profound upheaval, with rapidly evolving challenges whose effects extend far beyond its borders.
Sheikh Mohamed expressed appreciation to G7 members and partners for their support during the UAE’s defence against Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting civilian sites over six consecutive weeks.
He said the crisis highlighted the need for stronger cooperation and collective action, stressing that resilient supply chains, secure trade routes, and efficient infrastructure are essential foundations of prosperity. Safeguarding global stability, he added, is both a shared interest and a collective responsibility.
The President also commended US President Donald Trump’s efforts in advancing the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. He reiterated that lasting peace depends on respect for sovereignty, good neighbourliness, and adherence to international law.
Expanding cooperation
Sheikh Mohamed highlighted opportunities to deepen cooperation in areas shaping future growth, including energy transition, artificial intelligence, and economic development. He described the UAE as a trusted and forward-looking partner in these fields.
He said the UAE’s participation in the G7 reflects its commitment to strengthening partnerships and investing in innovation, connectivity, and resilience to support regional and global prosperity.
Iran remained a key topic at the summit, with leaders monitoring efforts to turn the US-Iran memorandum of understanding into a final agreement aimed at ending months of regional conflict.
Focus on nuclear issue
Trump said the United States remains focused on ensuring Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon, while Tehran signalled that talks on its nuclear programme and sanctions relief could resume this week.
Iranian officials said negotiations on a final agreement are expected to begin within 60 days of the memorandum’s signing. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said a new round of talks with the United States was likely to begin on Friday, with discussions focusing on nuclear issues and sanctions relief.
According to Iranian officials, senior negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf will attend the signing ceremony in Switzerland at the Bürgenstock Resort overlooking Lake Lucerne.
Residents welcome peace deal
For many UAE residents, news of the US-Iran agreement has brought relief and cautious optimism.
Many expressed gratitude for the UAE’s leadership and its continued commitment to ensuring security and wellbeing for all who live in the country.
Several described the agreement as a positive step toward lasting peace, emphasising that dialogue and diplomacy are always preferable to conflict.
