On the evening of August 5, residents of the coastal city of Khor Fakkan may have felt a slight tremor — a minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.0 was recorded in the area, according to the UAE’s National Center of Meteorology (NCM).

The seismic event occurred at 8:35 PM local time, with the epicenter located approximately 5 kilometers underground. Meteorologists confirmed that the tremor had no impact on infrastructure or daily life in the city.

Experts note that such low-magnitude tremors are relatively common in the UAE, with most seismic activity ranging between 1.5 and 3.5 on the Richter scale.

Many modern buildings across the country, especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, are designed to withstand light to moderate earthquakes. Additionally, emergency response capabilities are continuously being improved to ensure readiness in case of more serious incidents. So far, there have been no reports of damage or any need for evacuation.
