The UAE is mourning the loss of one of its most respected figures in the luxury retail sector. Abdulmagied Ahmed Seddiqi, co‑owner of Seddiqi Holding and a key leader of luxury retailer Ahmed Seddiqi, has passed away, his family confirmed this week.

Seddiqi was a driving force in transforming what began as a modest watch shop in Bur Dubai in 1950 into one of the Middle East’s most influential luxury retail groups. Over the decades, Ahmed Seddiqi grew to represent more than 100 prestigious watch and jewellery brands, with partnerships including Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet.

Under his guidance—alongside his brother, Chairman Abdul Hamied Ahmed Seddiqi—the company played a leading role in helping establish Dubai as a global destination for luxury timepieces and fine jewellery. In 2007, the family consolidated its diverse interests into Seddiqi Holding, encompassing retail, after‑sales services, lifestyle brands and property ventures.

A Leader Remembered by Staff

Employees and colleagues remembered Seddiqi not only as a visionary leader but also as a mentor and a caring figure within the company. Many spoke of his personal attention to staff and his commitment to their wellbeing:

One long‑serving employee said that Seddiqi made it a habit to personally check in with staff each day, calling stores to see how employees were doing and how business was going.

Another colleague highlighted his fairness, saying that everyone felt respected and valued regardless of their role.

A Palestinian staff member described him as “a father figure”, praising his sincere interest in both their personal and professional lives.

Even newer team members noted his warm and approachable presence, with Seddiqi remembering names and taking the time to engage with employees across the organisation.

For many, these personal connections made his loss deeply felt beyond the corporate sphere.

Legacy and Family Leadership

Abdulmagied Seddiqi’s leadership helped expand the family enterprise through decades of regional growth, with later generations joining senior positions within the company. His son, Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi, currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Ahmed Seddiqi, carrying forward the family’s long legacy in the luxury market.

The Seddiqi family business has not only shaped the luxury retail landscape of the UAE but also contributed to Dubai’s recognition on the global stage for high‑end timepieces and cultural events such as Dubai Watch Week, which further positions the city as a key hub in the world of horology.

Abdulmagied Seddiqi is remembered for his warmth, leadership, and the lasting impact he made on both the industry and the people who worked with him.
