For over 40 years, Technogym has shaped the global culture of Wellness – a philosophy of active, mindful, and balanced living. It all began in the 1980s when a young engineer, Nerio Alessandri, built his first piece of gym equipment in his garage in Cesena, Italy. Inspired by the idea of combining movement, health, and quality of life, he founded a company that would grow to become a global leader in fitness, wellness, and digital health technologies.

How do you see the Healthness philosophy transforming the future of health and fitness?

Today, health is becoming a top priority, not only for individuals but for societies at large. People are more informed about the benefits of physical activity, but more importantly, there is growing recognition among governments and local authorities that investing in prevention and healthy lifestyles is key to reducing the rising costs of healthcare, especially in aging populations.

When it comes to health, it’s crucial to prescribe precise training protocols to prevent or treat specific conditions. Over 40 years of developing the Wellness philosophy, we’ve collected trillions of data points and invested heavily in artificial intelligence. This has enabled us to take personalization to a whole new level and introduce Healthness – an evolution of Wellness based on hyper-personalized training protocols tailored to the user’s current condition, goals, and progress. This a philosophy, a new form of preventive medicine, driven by data and technology.

With the upcoming release of the Assouline book The Art of Wellness, Technogym is being recognized not only for innovation but also for its approach to design and lifestyle. How important is aesthetic appeal and emotional connection in the way you design and develop products?

Today’s consumers are not only looking for performance, they also expect an emotional, aesthetic, and cultural connection with the products they use. A product should not only function well, it should inspire.

From the very beginning, design has been a core part of our identity – it’s in our Italian DNA. We built our own design center and have collaborated with leading designers, including Antonio Citterio, who created our iconic Personal Line and designed the Technogym Village, our headquarters.

The Art of Wellness is more than a celebration of 40 years of history. It’s a narrative of innovation, design, and projects that embody the Technogym brand where science, style, and the culture of movement come together.

Technogym has now been the official equipment supplier for the Olympic Games an impressive ten times. What does this ongoing partnership represent for you personally and for the Technogym brand?

This partnership is both an honor and a mission. At Technogym, we strive daily to create cutting-edge products and digital solutions that help athletes from around the world reach their full potential. The Olympic Games provide a unique platform to promote the culture of wellness, sport, and active living on a global scale.

Our digital ecosystem including connected equipment, mobile apps, and an extensive content library enables the development of individualized programs that precisely match each athlete’s condition and training protocols.

From building your first piece of equipment in a garage to leading a global fitness and wellness empire – what has been the most pivotal or defining moment in your journey with Technogym?

There have been many important milestones, but I’d say the most critical factor in our success has been our ability to constantly evolve and innovate. I often say, “If something works, it’s already outdated.” The moment you reach success is exactly when you need to start thinking about the next step – only then can you stay ahead and create what people will want tomorrow.

Today, Technogym is a large international company with offices around the world, strong investments, advanced marketing, and infrastructure. But I firmly believe that the most important chapter is still ahead. To keep growing, you need to stay humble, listen carefully, and remain open to change.
