Abu Dhabi Police stop Emirati from jumping off Sheikh Zayed Bridge

The National -- Abu Dhabi Police stopped an Emirati from taking his own life by jumping off Sheikh Zayed Bridge on Monday.

The 22-year-old man was stood on the edge of the 64m high bridge during rush hour when police were called.

Police closed the bridge and authorities urged commuters to take an alternative route while they dealt with the incident.

The man was taken to the nearest police station where initial investigations showed that he was in an "unstable condition which made him climb up the bridge", according to a police statement.

They did not disclose what prompted the man to consider suicide.
