Region’s most awaited summer event to be held from June 17 to August 7

The Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, an agency under the Department of Economic Development, has drawn up an extensive plan to present the thirteenth edition of Dubai Summer Surprises – the region’s biggest and most awaited summer event. Kicking off on June 17, DSS 2010 will go on till August 7 for 52 days with a plethora of activities focused on shopping, family entertainment, winning, and lifestyle.

Laila Suhail, Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment said, “Dubai Summer Surprises marks it thirteenth edition this year and comes after more than a decade of welcoming and entertaining millions of visitors from across the world. The event has come a long way in its strive towards positioning Dubai as leading a summer destination, and every year the vital economic sectors in Dubai reap the fruits of DSS in the form of enhanced businesses .”

“we are looking forward to further elevate the benefits of our summer extravaganza towards all stake holders, and attract more tourists from the region and the world during our 13th edition for this year.” Suhail added.

Suhail also stated that the DEPE team was fully geared for the upcoming Arabian Travel Market that takes place from May 4 to May 7. Participating under the DTCM umbrella, the DEPE will promote Dubai Summer Surprises through its stand UAE2300 and also have a press conference on May 4 at the Ras Al Khaimah hall to unveil some of the elements of DSS 2010

Starting off in 1998, DSS is today synonymous with a range of indoor and outdoor summer activities combined with some of the best shopping deals in the region. Additionally, Modhesh World, the largest indoor edutainment venue in the Middle East, returns this year with a focus on providing entertainment for not just children, but various age groups and tastes. The indoor venue attracted 500,000 visitors in DSS 2009.

Setting aside doubts on the impact of recession on tourist arrivals, Laila commented that regional and international visitors would find DSS extremely affordable with hotels, airlines, government and private sector entities coming together this summer to offer outstanding travel, accommodation, and lifestyle packages. She also pointed out that the continuing low rate of inflation in UAE made it possible for entities in the travel and tourism industry to offer some of the best deals in the region. This should also be a reason, she added, for UAE residents to make the most of DSS 2010.
