French designer Alexis Mabille is reputed for the cheekiness and girlishness of both, his Haute Couture and ready-to-wear. This season was no different, and yet the designer achieved to infuse a poetic and bucolic beauty into his floor-skimming, body-con shaped evening gowns. "There are strange evenings when flowers have souls", read the show-notes. And it was precisely the delicate soul of a burgeoning flower that Mabille wanted to capture, hence embroidering magnolia garland appliqués, giant poppies and peonies on various evening numbers, such as a nude tulle sheath dress, a sequined kimono, or a midnight blue bustier dress. Then, Mabille also showcased the best of his straight-forward feminine designs in eye-popping hues, with a flowing cape-dress, figure-embracing jumpsuit, and an impressive corseted wrap gown, that came towards the end of the show. As the saying goes, Mabille definitely deserves a bouquet of orchids for this sensual collection.
