Beginning this week, the art showcase consists of 21 towering sculptures designed by leading global, regional and local talent, which will be unveiled across prominent UAE locations.
Dubai: Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State, Board Representative of the Dubai Expo 2020 Higher Committee and Director General, Bureau Dubai Expo 2020, on Saturday unveiled a UAE-wide multi-experience community engagement campaign for Expo 2020 Dubai under the banner of ‘For Everyone’.
Starting from Sunday, March 1st, the ‘For Everyone’ campaign will build awareness about Expo 2020 Dubai and the rich history of World Expos through a series of interactive initiatives, as well as provide a platform for people to collaboratively shape how Expo 2020 Dubai is for them, through dialogue and debate.
“Our core objective is to build on inclusive ideas that deliver something special. Our World Expo will be for the people and will touch every corner of the UAE’s unique tapestry of culture, innovation and ambition. This is about creating an opportunity for people to envision the future and their role within it,” said Reem Al Hashimy.
“We are on a remarkable journey together. We all share our path in shaping this vision, and in determining how Expo 2020 Dubai will be for all, making it an once-in-a-lifetime event that will leave behind a truly transformational legacy that touches everyone.”
The ‘For Everyone’ campaign begins with a one-of-a-kind interactive art showcase, with artists from around the world conceptualising the Expo 2020 Dubai subthemes: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. It will then introduce a nation-wide competition to design the new Expo 2020 Dubai logo as well as launch multi-Emirate interactive experience zones linked to the marking of the 2,020 day countdown to the Expo 2020 Dubai opening, happening on 10th April 2015.
Beginning this week, the art showcase consists of 21 towering sculptures designed by leading global, regional and local talent, which will be unveiled across prominent UAE locations. The sculptures have been conceptualised to express the essence of Expo 2020 Dubai through the powerful medium of art.
Ranging from three to six metres in height, the sculptures each have an interactive screen allowing visitors to discover more about the artwork, artists, Expo 2020 Dubai themes and the impact of World Expos. The UAE community can also share their thoughts and insights with the Expo team and the public on social media channels under the hashtag #expo2020 and on www.expo2020dubai.ae/for-everyone.
During the week of 22nd March, the 21 sculptures will come together, transforming into three six-by-six metre-high Expo 2020 Dubai logos – one for each of the subthemes - and put on public display.
“Art is universal in its appeal and understanding. We hope the expression of our theme and subthemes through the eyes of the world’s artists will spark dialogue around the challenges that impact our daily lives and connect the community,” said Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy.
In addition, a competition for the country’s budding designers and artists to create the new logo for Expo 2020 Dubai will be launched. Open to UAE residents and nationals, the design competition runs from late March to April with the winning brand unveiled on October 20th 2015 – the start of a five year countdown to the opening of Expo 2020 Dubai.
“We wanted to give people across the UAE the chance to truly express their interpretation of everything the UAE and Expo 2020 embodies, and help create our emblem to the world,” added Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy.
April 10th – 2,020 days before the opening of Expo 2020 Dubai - will then introduce additional activations in Dubai, including two travelling experiential roadshow zones that will visit all seven Emirates in the following weeks.
The experiential roadshow zones will take visitors on a journey through the history of World Expos from the first edition in 1851 to the story around Expo 2020 Dubai and the relevance of hosting such an event on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the UAE. The zones will uniquely engage visitors via interactive screens and motion controlled sensor displays to build awareness about the Expo, learn how it will benefit them and the community, and how the UAE will collectively work together to make this a truly exceptional World Expo.
The launch of the ‘For Everyone’ campaign is expected to be an awareness building and engaging series of public activities that will support the UAE and Expo 2020’s participation in Italy’s World Expo - Expo Milano 2015 – taking place May 1st to the end of October. The UAE will have a country pavilion within Expo 2015, focussing on the UAE’s efforts to address food and hunger issues and dually promoting Expo 2020 Dubai’s theme and subthemes.
