The first ever Dresden Opera Ball took place in Dubai

Classical music fans of Dubai had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to eyewitness multi-cultural black-tie event Dresden Opera Ball at Dubai Opera. A red-carpet reception begun proceedings at 6pm as ladies in spectacular gowns and gentlemen in stylish tuxedos arrive at elegant Dubai Opera. Before VIP guests made their way inside for lavish dinner, a floating violinist greeted them as they walked the red carpet. Upon entering beautifully decorated foyer of Dubai Opera, guests found themselves in a fairytale where gorgeous models in elegant dresses welcomed and escorted them to a VIP cocktail reception where they were entertained by live music before they took their seats. All the guests were enchanted by the magical setting they found themselves in. 

A VIP guest list included many royalties, excellencies, international celebrities, politicians, ambassadors and many well-known figures who made their way to Dubai Opera on that special evening. Dubai Opera was strategically selected as a venue to host Dresden Opera Ball in the UAE. Dubai Opera is the city’s first purpose-built multi-format performing arts theatre, the marvel of modern construction and the definitive destination for quality entertainment productions and performances.

The inaugural Dresden Opera Ball in the UAE showcased a unique blend of world-class opera singers and classical musicians perform on the same stage. Maestro Plácido Domingo gladly took part in the line-up of world stars after he captivated the audience with his performance at the grand opening of Dubai Opera in 2016 and returned six years later for another significant event - the first Dresden Opera Ball in Dubai.    

The first Dresden Opera Ball in Dubai presented many internationally acclaimed opera singers and musicians. From the global super-star performers such as Latvian soprano Marina Rebeka to highly-acclaimed opera-bass Roman Lyulkin and world-renowned composer Anton Lubchenko. The line-up of artists also featured one of the best trumpet players Otto Sauter and a saxophone virtuoso Igor Butman and his quintet. Famous Middle-Eastern singer Mirelem Mirelemov and Azerbaijanian contralto Fidan Damirova performed a unique blend of the Muslim prayer call with the Christian song “Ave Maria”. The event presented breathtaking multi-cultural operatic experience like no other come together under one roof. All the performers were accompanied by The European Peace Chamber Orchestra Dresden and hosted by famed TV personalities such as renowned international journalist Riz Khan and Miss Universe 2002 Oksana Fedorova.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed world-known opera masterpieces such as Marguerite Aria - "Juwelenarie", Los Gavilanes - "Mi Aldea", Andrea Chénier - "Nemico della Patria", “La Traviatta”, The Merry Widow - "Lippen schweigen", “The Barber of Seville” – aria "La Calunnia"  and many more.

Dresden Opera Ball has always been known for its famous honorable awards that have been given to more than 80 leading international figures across the world, including kings, presidents, among others. “The Glorious” created and hand-made by the world-famous German porcelain company, Meissen. They have been produced especially for this inaugural event in the UAE to recognize leading figures with the same award. The honorable awards have been given to maestro Plácido Domingo and Mr. Mohammed Al Zarooni.

The grand finale of the event featured 14 young debutants who have come from Dresden, Germany to present specially choreograpahed dance program. They waltzed their way on to the dance floor with a special piece known as the story of “Sheherazade” - composed into a beautiful waltz by Johann Strauss known as “The Waltz from 1001 nights”. A spellbinding tango – specially choreographed for Dubai was performed by world dance champions Mykyta Zherdiev and Fabien Charlott Lax.

DJ Paul Lomax concluded the gala evening under the rhytmic beats where all the guests took the dance floor and danced all night long.  

The main goal of the first Dresden Opera Ball in the UAE was to build cultural bridges and collaboration between the nations and countries. 2023 edition of Dresden Opera Ball in the UAE has already been announced during the event and is set to take place on 18 November 2023 at Dubai Opera.
