Russian elegance

One of Russia’s most famous fashion designers, the hallmark of Valentin Yudashkin’s collections is hailed as classic, luxurious and feminine. His Fall/Winter 2014 collection had a touch of the contemporary and was showcased in a ballroom setting with gilded chandeliers that enhanced their status. Their inspiration was romantic rock n roll from the late 80’s probably because of which there was a dominance of black, white and grey colours in the collection. Not that these colours took away the feminine appeal of his creations.  They are also practically designed and offered creations that can be worn to office as well as evening events. The designer placed great attention on the fabrics as also on the outerwear, such as sporty black blazers which can be worn to the office with tuck-in-tops over trousers (both in the same colour) and embellishing them with fur and delicate rose motifs.

The collection offers loose fit fur hooded jacket with cocoon sleeves paired with black sweatshirt and slim-fit pants. While metallic silver shade puffer jacket trimmed with fur is styled with regular pants. There is also a slim fit double-breasted trench coat with leather details on the waist and sleeves and a swelte-looking great sleek and slim fit, belted trench with leather details teamed with a black turtleneck and pleated trousers. Just perfect for those cold, wintery climes…

There are also some interesting blue and black skirt and top (with peplum) combos and a fit-and-flare leather biker jacket with zip pockets styled with maxi navy skirt. Meanwhile delicate, sheer, fabrics dominate the eveningwear offering sparkling with shimmer and sequins and trailing tulle heightening the romantic touch.

Valentin Yudashkin, one of Russia’s most famous fashion designers is the only Russian designer to be honored with membership in the Syndicate of High Fashion in Paris. He is also a decorated member of the Academy of Arts of the Russian Federation and a National Artist of Russia. Born on 14 October 1963 in the Moscow region, as a child he loved to draw and was fascinated with clothes and design. After graduating from high school he enrolled in the Moscow Industrial College, majoring in clothes design and makeup. And though he was practically the only male in his class he studied hard and graduated with honors.

1991 saw the creation of the Valentin Yudashkin brand and his first Haute Couture collection, named Fabergé. The most popular items of that collection were dresses made in the shape of an egg and decorated in the Fabergé style. They were an instant success at the fashion week in Paris, impressing such renowned couturiers as Pierre Cardin and Paco Rabane. His Fabergé dresses traveled the world, some of them were purchased by the Louvres Dress Museum and a few other items went to the California Museum of Fashion and the New York Metropolitan Museum.
