The fragrance category has been injected with a big dose of magic this go-round: There are fresh faces from majorly cool designers, scents that really, truly smell like nothing we've smelled before and bottles so pretty we're already plotting ways to repurpose them after the potion runs out.
Perhaps the biggest new addition to the heady world of perfumes comes courtesy of Miu Miu. The brand introduces its very first fragrance and stays very much true to the brand. Lily – a favoured print of the house – dominates the floral scent, while the bottle references the matelassé design from Miu Miu’s classic handbags.
Azzedine Alaïa also enters the market with a debut perfume, Alaïa Paris. And as can be expected from the famously elusive designer his approach to fragrance is anything but conventional, with no one note distinguishable, making for a rather mysterious yet potent formulation.
That’s not all from the major fashion houses; Gucci has just introduced Bamboo, while new offerings are also on hand from Bottega Veneta and Chloé. Dior’s new launch may look a lot like its iconic J’adore fragrance but the Touche de Parfum is an entirely new innovation: an oil-based scent designed to be applied to pressure points and layered with other perfumes, giving the wearer a unique scent experience.
Mimosa may be more commonly associated with an alcoholic beverage but it’s the plant of the same name that’s having a moment. Jo Malone’s newest addition is Mimosa & Cardamom – a spicy floral scent that will sit well as the weather takes a turn for the autumnal. Dolce & Gabbana has also utilised mimosa, combining it with floral and citrus oils for a fresher take on the scent.
