In this interview, Saleh Al Aroud shares his vision for the future of the RBC, assesses current economic dynamics, and outlines the role of the Russian-speaking community in the UAE.

Congratulations on the opening of the new season of the Russian Business Council. What are the key goals and priorities at this stage?

This season marks an important milestone for us. Our goal is to move from general networking toward structured economic impact. We are focused on three key areas.

First, strengthening support for companies entering the UAE market or expanding their presence through practical guidance and direct engagement with government and private-sector institutions.

Second, developing sector-specific platforms in technology, industrial cooperation, logistics, and the energy transition to help businesses identify the right opportunities and reliable partners.

Third, building long-term institutional partnerships that enhance the role of the RBC as a trusted bridge between the business communities of the two countries.

Overall, this season is about focus, efficiency, and delivering measurable results.

How do you assess the current state of relations between Russia and the UAE? Which areas of cooperation appear most promising?

Relations between Russia and the UAE today are characterized by pragmatism, openness, and strong economic momentum. The UAE has become a global hub for trade, logistics, financial services, tourism, and technology. As a result, Russian companies increasingly view the country not only as a market, but also as a strategic base for operations across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

The most promising areas include technology and digital industries—such as AI, cybersecurity, and software development—energy and the energy transition, logistics and supply chains, agritech and food industries, tourism, hospitality, and creative industries. Cooperation in all of these sectors is already underway, with significant potential still ahead.

What role does the Russian-speaking community play in the social and economic life of the UAE?

The Russian-speaking community makes a meaningful contribution to the Emirates’ multicultural environment and economic development. Many professionals bring strong technical skills, engineering expertise, innovative thinking, and a commitment to building long-term projects.

The humanitarian dimension is also important. The community strengthens interpersonal connections through culture, education, service industries, and innovation. Integration is progressing positively and reflects the UAE’s core values of tolerance and cooperation.

How does the RBC support initiatives in culture, education, and humanitarian projects?

For us, business cooperation is inseparable from cultural and social dialogue. The Council supports initiatives aimed at promoting Russian culture, as well as partnerships between universities and educational institutions. Two members of our board serve on the advisory council of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. We strive to ensure that the Russian-speaking community is not only economically active, but also culturally engaged.

What key challenges do Russian-speaking entrepreneurs face in the UAE, and how does the RBC help address them?

The main challenges include understanding regulatory frameworks, finding reliable partners, adapting to the cultural specifics of the business environment, and accessing trustworthy information. The Russian Business Council acts as a navigation system, a “trust filter,” a knowledge hub, and a platform for open dialogue. Our support is practical and based on real entrepreneurial experience.

What personal mission do you see in your role as a successful entrepreneur and Chairman of the RBC?

My mission is to build an ecosystem in which Russian business in the UAE can develop professionally, ethically, and sustainably. I see the RBC as a tool for serving our community, and my role as a responsibility to represent its interests, amplify its voice, and create conditions for growth, trust, and long-term partnership.

What message would you like to share with current and future members of the Russian Business Council?

The UAE offers exceptional opportunities to those who work professionally, transparently, and with respect for local culture. My main advice is to invest in understanding the environment, be active members of the community, and uphold high standards—because in the Emirates, reputation is your most valuable asset. Joint growth and mutual support will enable the Russian-speaking business community to strengthen its position and make a meaningful contribution to the country’s development.

The development of Russian business in the UAE is built on professionalism, respect, and strategic vision. Under our leadership, the Russian Business Council is becoming a platform that unites entrepreneurs’ interests and fosters sustainable partnerships.

The future of cooperation between Russia and the UAE promises to be multifaceted, and the contribution of the RBC will be one of the key factors driving successful progress.

Thank you for the insightful conversation, and we wish you continued success in implementing your future initiatives.
