The UAE continues to experience a winter cold spell, with temperatures dipping significantly across several parts of the country this week.
The lowest temperature recorded so far was 4.7°C, measured at Jais Mountain in Ras Al Khaimah at 7am on January 20, according to official weather data.
Weather conditions across the UAE today, January 23, are expected to be fair to partly cloudy, with low clouds forming over some coastal and northern areas. Temperatures are forecast to remain low, with a further drop expected during the night.
Residents can expect humid conditions tonight and into Friday morning, with a probability of mist formation over some western areas, which may reduce horizontal visibility during early hours.
Winds will be moderate to fresh, blowing from the northwesterly to northeasterly direction, and may become strong at times over the sea, especially during the morning. Wind speeds are expected to range between 15 and 30 km/h, reaching up to 45 km/h, which may cause blowing dust and sand in exposed areas.
Sea conditions will be very rough to rough in the Arabian Gulf, becoming moderate by night, while the Oman Sea will see rough to moderate conditions.
Meteorologists say the ongoing cold spell affecting the UAE is not an isolated local phenomenon, but part of broader global climate dynamics. One of the key drivers is the La Niña phenomenon, a climate pattern associated with cooler-than-normal sea surface temperatures in parts of the Pacific Ocean, which influences weather patterns across many regions of the world, including the Middle East.
Authorities advise residents to stay updated with official weather forecasts and take precautions, particularly during early morning travel and marine activities.
