The visa waiver agreement between Russia and Saudi Arabia is expected to come into effect this May, Russian Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov told reporters.

"It was signed in December, and we hope that, taking into account all the necessary procedures and ratifications, it will start working this May," he said on the sidelines of the Innoprom exhibition in Saudi Arabia.

The agreement aims to facilitate tourism, business travel, and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Once implemented, citizens of both nations will be able to enter each other’s territories without a visa for short-term visits, simplifying travel and strengthening bilateral ties.

Experts suggest that the visa-free regime could boost economic cooperation, particularly in tourism, trade, and investment. Saudi Arabia is promoting itself as a tourist destination, while Russia seeks to expand its business and cultural presence in the Gulf region.

Alikhanov added that both governments are working to complete all procedural steps to ensure the visa-free system begins smoothly this May.
