The Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) has teamed up with the emirate’s newest luxury flagship hotel, Fairmont Ajman and Ajman Bank to announce the emirate’s first cycling competition named Ride Ajman to be held on April 22, 2016.
The announcement was made today at a press conference in Fairmont Ajman attended by organizers and sponsors of the event where preparations and plans are revealed to ensure the success of the event.
Sheikh Abdullah Bin Ahmed Al Nuaimi, son of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, the Representative of Ajman’s Ruler for Administrative and Financial Affairs will participate in the race.
Ride Ajman is organized to promote the emirate as a sports and tourism destination and cyclists from the UAE and abroad will be invited to participate in one of the fastest growing sports in the country and around the world.
The competition is open for participation of all cyclists between the ages of 16 years old and above. The race will cover a total distance of 90kms, starting from the Fairmont Ajman heading to Al Tallal Camel Racecourse. A charity race will be organized on the same day for the public at the Ajman Corniche where residents, visitors and cycling enthusiasts can enter and participate. Proceeds of the event will be donated to a charitable project in the emirate.
Trophies and prizes will be given to the first, second and third place winners for men and women. The awarding ceremony will follow after the race.
HE Faisal Al Nuaimi, General Manager of ATDD, said: “The emirate of Ajman offers a variety of activities for tourists, visitors and residents including recreational and sports activities. We are organizing the first cycling race in Ajman to promote the emirate as an ideal venue for sporting events in support of Ajman’s Vision 2021. Sporting races such as Ride Ajman will put the emirate on the map as sports and tourism destination so we look forward to hosting the best athletes in cycling from the other emirates and outside of the UAE.”
Commenting on this partnership, Henny Schaeffer, General Manager of Fairmont Ajman said “Ride Ajman is a great addition to Ajman tourism activities, and a fabulous added value to our guests who are also bike riders.” He further added, “We are delighted that ATDD was open to our idea of hosting a cycling race, and are very committed to make it succeed and to put the emirate on the map as another sports destination.”

The organizers are expecting around 200 participants to this race.
Colonel Al Hemrani of Ajman Police noted that some roads will be closed during the race, but Ajman Police team will work on the main roads to avoid any disruptions to citizens, residents and tourists.
Col Nasser Al Zari, spokesman for Ajman Civil Defence said that emergency and ambulance services will be provided to ensure the safety and security of participants and spectators of the cycling race.
