In the framework of the 33 International Book Fair that takes place in Sharjah from 5 till 15 of November 2014 the Russian Federation as one of the participants is going to represent its book exposition and event program "Books of Russia". Initiated by the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications, the program "Books of Russia" annually reflects the tendencies of the modern Russian book market all over the world. Different international book fairs serve as a platform for wide-ranging programme presentation, so that Russia along with other countries has an opportunity to demonstrate itself and its literature.
“Books of Russia” becomes a participant of the Sharjah book fair for the first time. Its first steps are going to consist in the attempt of being involved in the Translation Grant programme initiated by the Sharjah Government and aimed at providing the financial support for book translation of regional and international publishing houses. That is why beside classical and modern books (prose, science-fiction, educational and infantile literature, albums on art and culture), awarded by the prestigious Russian literature Prizes, assortment of National Russian stand will include the editions corresponding to the main directions, supported by the programme: poetry, memoirs, fantasy.
In total the Russian book exposition enumerates about 500 editions of the leading Russian publishing houses. Taking into account the high interest of the UAE citizens to hi-tech and innovations, the Russian exposition is also formed by books dedicated to modern architecture, oil refining, aircraft engineering, agriculture, electroenergetics, medicine, education.
The programme is concentrated on relations between the Eastern counties and the Russian Federation. The most essential event is supposed to be the round table on the topic “Is the Arab reader in need of the Russian literature?” with the participation of the special UAE guest doctor of Philology, member of the International Association of translators FIT, founder and Director General of “Orient Consulting & Legal Translation” in Dubai Dr.Safa M.Alwan Al Janabi. The Russian view on this topic is be expressed by the professional literary translator from Arabic into Russian, who got education and now lives in Russia Haba Abdullah M.Hassan. The round table takes place in the Stand "Books of Russia" on the 7th of November, 2014 at 19:00.
The fair guests could get acquainted with Russian books by visiting the presentation on the Islam history and culture research organized by one of the most authoritative publishing houses "Aleteya" with the assistance of its founder - Igor Savkin. The presentation takes place in the Stand "Books of Russia" on the 5th November, 2014 at 14:00.
Dmitri Osipov, a journalist, writer, different hand- and guidebook author talks about the issue with the Eastern cultural heritage in the epoch of wars and revolutions befallen today’s Middle East. The lecture “Treasures under attack: fate of museums in the Middle East» takes place in the Stand "Books of Russia" on the 8th of November,2014 at 19:00.
One of the most disputable topics – the peculiarities of Islamic culture perception on the European ground – is tackled in the framework of the lecture “Interaction of the Eastern, Russian and Tatar literary traditions, cultures, religions, civilizations” of a poet, translator, member of the Union of Writers of Tatarstan, of the Union of Russian writers Alena Karimova. The lecture takes place at the territory of the Book forum in Sharjah Expo center on the 6th of November, 2014 at 15:00.
The author holds the same event for the russian speaking students from the Russian International School in Dubai.
The Arab audience is expected toappreciatethe lecture “Medical science in the Middle ages: continuation of ancient tradition” of a Russian historian and expert in theology and history of Eastern Christianity and Byzantium, publicist Alexey Muraviev. The lecture touches upon ancient roots of the Eastern medical tradition in rather specific and provocative way. The audience could enjoy the lecture in the Stand "Books of Russia" on the 6th of November, 2014 at 19:00.
