Dubai is now planting a new kind of palm tree – artificial ones that offer free wireless Internet and charging stations to visitors on the beach.

The Smart Palm, which is considered the first of its kind in the Arab world, is a project launched by Dubai on June 4. The project’s designers say that they have integrated technology with creation, according to a report by the Akhbar Al Khaleej.

D Idea, a media company based in Dubai, is responsible for the design and production of the Smart Palm. Hussain Lootah, general manager of Dubai Municipality, states, “It is Smart in many ways; it is sustainable because electrical energy is [derived from] solar panels.

“The man-made palms provide Wi-Fi and a charging station for Smart devices along with information screens about Dubai, the weather and general information.

It also has cameras that enable visitors to take selfies and upload them on the Internet.
