Beach Polo Cup Dubai set for April

The tournament will see a bigger setup for the public and VIP zones and will begin at sunset on both days against the backdrop of Dubai Marina skyline and Mina Seyahi coastline.

Dubai — The Beach Polo Cup (BPC) Dubai, a prestigious event on the international sports calendar, will take place at the Skydive Dubai complex at Dubai Marina on April 10 and 11.

Mamemo, creators of the concept a decade ago said, the Dubai tournament will see the top polo players of the international stage and some celebrities of the cine world taking part during the weekend, and they expect bigger crowds than the previous chapter here.

This was announced at a media conference at the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) which was attended among others by the sponsor representatives, Saeed Mohamed Hareb, general secretary, DSC; Sam Katiela, managing and creative director, mamemo productions and founder and organiser of BPC Dubai; and Nasser Amaan Al Rahma, events director, DSC on Monday.

To be held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman, DSC, the tournament will see a bigger setup for the public and VIP zones and will begin at sunset on both days against the brilliant backdrop of the Dubai Marina skyline and the Mina Seyahi coastline. There will also be a fully attended 400sq/ metre children’s play area at the Skydive arena which is playing host for the second straight year.

Since inception the sport’s version on sand and the beach has grown to well over 32 cities around the world. In his message to the attendees Hareb mentioned: “The DSC whole heartedly supports sporting events that complement its own agenda of the yearly calendar plan. We are thankful for the support and patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for such activities to grow even bigger.”

Katiela said: “We are extremely proud and honoured to be hosting the championship in Dubai which we know is the leading sports destination in the region.

“This year will have a different format where four teams will play a qualifying round with the top two going in for the title clash. Three sides will be named after the leading polo outfits here and this will encourage the local talent while the fourth side will be made up of the leading internationals names in the sport.”
