The Honor Six Plus is targeted at a younger internet-savvy demographic.

Huawei has launched the Honor Six Plus smartphone in the region, as part of a worldwide push by its e-commerce only Honor sub-brand.

Chris Sun, VP, online sales/Huawei Consumer for the Middle East, said the sub-brand was targeted at a younger internet-savvy demographic, who use their phone for entertainment and for social activities.

The Honor brand has achieved total sales revenue of $2.4 billion and sold 20 million units globally, according to Huawei.

Sun revealed there was no particular sales target for the sub-brand in the Middle East this year, however.

“We want to create awareness among young people and subsequently we think then it will come to sales revenue,” he told Gulf Business.

Huawei claims the Honor 6 Plus is the first device to feature a dual rear camera, which is meant to improve light capture.

Both the front and rear cameras are 8MP with other specs including a 1080p 5.5inch negative KDI screen, 32GB of expandable storage, 3GB of RAM and an octa-core Kirin 925 processor.

The Android KitKat device is also dual-sim and LTE enabled, with a 3,600mAh battery, claimed to last 1.25 days with heavy usage.

It is being sold in the region exclusively through e-commerce site Souq.com, in a similar partnership to that adopted by budget manufacturers InnJoo and Infinix.

Although Sun revealed the partnership would only cover the Dhs1,399 Honor Six Plus, with “several” models potentially coming to the region.

“We have seen a huge appetite for high-tech, moderately priced smartphones on Souq.com, especially in KSA and UAE where we can sell tens of thousands of devices in a single day for a big launch. And this is our biggest, so we have very high expectations for its reception and success in this market,” said Ronaldo Mouchawar, CEO & Co-Founder of Souq.com.
