As part of its efforts to promote commercial arbitration in settling trade disputes, and to exchange knowledge in alternative dispute resolution, the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), an initiative of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, received a high-level Chinese delegation representing prestigious government entities including the Legal Affairs Office of People’s Government of Beijing Municipality; Beijing International Arbitration Centre, and Beijing Intellectual Property Association.
The visiting delegation was received by Dr. Habib Al Mulla, Chairman Board of Trustees, DIAC, who expressed his delight in welcoming the delegation. He highlighted the Centre’s commitment to provide assistance and expertise to their Chinese counterparts as it is well-experienced to promote the use of alternative means of trade dispute as practised world over.
Dr. Al Mulla pointed out that the Centre has succeeded over the past years in enhancing the legal environment in Dubai and the region, making it a leading international centre for commercial arbitration.
“I invite Chinese companies to come to Dubai because of its thriving business environment, modern infrastructure, diversified investment opportunities, strategic location and opportunities to explore emerging markets in the GCC, Africa and Asia, providing access to nearly two billion consumers,” he said.
Dr. Al Mulla also discussed the ease of doing business in Dubai, which is characterized by transparency, clarity and the adherence to law. He also added that arbitration is a key tool for resolving existing commercial disputes.
The visiting Chinese delegation praised the Dubai International Arbitration Centre, pointing out that the Chinese business sector considers Dubai as its preferred destination in the region and serves as a major transit corridor, especially to the GCC, Middle East, Africa and Europe.
Created in 1994 as the "Centre for Commercial Conciliation and Arbitration", the Dubai International Arbitration Centre is an autonomous, permanent, non-profit institution that provides the regional and international business communities a high calibre of arbitration services and facilities at an affordable price.
Through DIAC’s associate membership, members can enhance their knowledge and experience international commercial arbitration by participating in seminars, training workshops and international conferences. The services offered include the overseeing of arbitral proceedings and commercial disputes, appointing arbitrators, choosing the venue for the arbitration and fixing the fees of arbitrators and mediators.
