WAM -- On the occasion of the World Environment Day, the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment on Sunday urged a review of consumer culture practices to further promote protection of the planet, public health and future generations.

Since its founding by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan- the namesake of the foundation- the UAE has been pursuing a positive approach to the environment that today receives full support from the leadership, namely President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, said Dr. Rashid bin Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of State and Chairman of the Higher Committee of the Foundation's Higher Committee.

The UAE has made significant progress in sustainable development in line with its UAE Vision 2021 and UAE Green Growth Strategy employing science, innovation and modern technology to earn a prestigious global status in environmental action, Bin Fahad added.

The World Environment Day occurs on 5th June every year and is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

The theme for the 2017 World Environment Day, ‘Connecting People to Nature’, urges all people to get outdoors and into nature, to appreciate its beauty and to think about how they are part of nature and how intimately they depend on it.
