UAE terminates diplomatic presence with North Korea

Reuters -- The UAE terminated its diplomatic presence of the UAE non-resident ambassador to the Republic of North Korea on Thursday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the measure fits within the country's responsibility as a member of the international community and called for a unified front against the Asian country's nuclear programme.

The move also indicates the country's keenness to join international efforts to stop the proliferation of North Korea's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programme that poses a threat to international stability, reported state news agency Wam.

Entry visas to the UAE will no longer be issued for North Korean citizens and new business licences for North Korean companies wishing to operate in the UAE will be ceased.

The Ministry said the UAE has developed an executive framework in collaboration with state departments to apply UN Security Council resolutions on North Korea and its nuclear programme, primarily resolutions 2371 and 2375.

The UAE looks forward to a unified global front against North Korea's nuclear weapons and missile programme, the Ministry said.
