The National -- Illuminated and environmentally-friendly kerbstone has replaced concrete pavement in Al Mina as part of a trial project by Abu Dhabi City Municipality.
The new pavements have multiple colours supported by internal LED lights that reflect lighting outside due to the transparent material used in making these kerbstones. The pavements are heat resistant and insulated against water. The lighting cables are invisible from outside. They will be covered by cement mortar and will not pose any risk to pedestrians.
These pavements are also environment-friendly as they are fully recyclable.
“It is a new experience in the Emirate aimed at face lifting the appearance of the capital and improving the traffic safety through reducing the potential crash of vehicles into kerbstones,” according to a statement from the municipality. “This makes it less vulnerable to damage and minimises traffic disruptions.”
The project was funded and constructed by Capital of Construction for General Contracting Company as part of the Year of Giving 2017 initiative.
“Undertaking such projects with strategic partners in the public and private sectors contributes to the sweeping development and infrastructural projects in the Emirate,” according to ADM. “It also echoes the Municipality’s commitment to improving the quality of services on offer.”
