Drug addict on trial for insulting Dubai Police

Khaleej Times -- A 35-year-old man allegedly resisted arrest as anti-narcotics police officers executed an arrest warrant, the Dubai Court of First Instance heard on Monday. The Emirati man also allegedly verbally abused the cops and would not obey their orders.

Drugs and fire arms shots were found in his house for which he had no permit. Toxicology tests showed he had been on drugs.

The incident dates back to October 4, 2017. "We had a reliable source informing us that the defendant, who lives in Nad Al Hamar and had a history of drug use, had been using the banned substance again," a police lieutenant said during the public prosecution investigation.

"We confirmed the information and after getting a public prosecution warrant, we (officers from the anti-narcotics division) went to his house around 5.30pm on October 4. We spotted him outside his house and after telling him we were police officers and had a warrant to search and arrest him, he insulted us and would not let us handcuff him. But eventually, we brought him under control."

The lieutenant added that no drugs were found on the defendant, but the police officers did find some quantities stashed in the ceiling of his bedroom toilet. Hashish, heroin, methamphetamine, some tablets, needles and gunshots were found and seized. 

"He admitted it all belonged to him. We referred him to the crime lab to have his urine sample tested," the lieutenant told the prosecutor.

The trial will continue on January 29.
