Sheikh Mohammed Launches New Strategy, Dubai Plan 2021

The plan outlines the emirate’s development framework over the next seven years.

UAE VP and PM and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has launched Dubai Plan 2021, a new strategy outlining the emirate’s development framework over the next seven years.

The framework of the plan includes six themes that aim to define and describe Dubai in the year 2021: a city of happy, creative and empowered people; an inclusive and cohesive society; the preferred place to live, work and visit; a smart and sustainable city; a pivotal hub in the global economy; and a pioneering and excellent government.

In a message on Twitter, Sheikh Mohammed said: “The first objective for the Dubai Plan 2021 is achieving people’s happiness. We have full confidence in those responsible to fulfill this goal.”

He added: “The future is full of opportunities, yet challenges exist too. But facing the future with positive energy will always ensure the best. We will thoroughly monitor the plan’s implementation and measure the workflow through a set of KPI’s along the six main pillars.”

Dubai Plan 2021 aims to reinforce the emirate’s positioning as a “global centre” across a number of areas, in line with recent events such as winning the right to host the World Expo 2020, the launch of an initiative to make Dubai to become the capital of the Islamic economy, and the launch of the Dubai Smart City strategy, official news agency WAM reported.

Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has directed all the entities in the government to align their strategic plans with Dubai Plan 2021 to ensure consistency and synergy, the report added.

“Dubai 2021 is a city that puts people first. It is the highest priority for government of Dubai for the next seven years.”

The strategy was prepared over a one-year time period by the Executive Council, which included representatives from the government, the private sector and civil society, the report said.

Secretary-General of Dubai Executive Council, Abdullah Al Shaibani said: “Dubai continues to flourish and rise, and launching Dubai Plan 2021 supports the city’s development, ensuring its sustainability.”

Dubai Plan 2021 aligns with UAE Vision 2021 and the national agenda key performance indicators, and complements Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 launched by Sheikh Mohammed in 2007, the WAM report added.
