Sofitel The Palm Dubai, the unique luxury five-star resort on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah island, celebrates its five-year anniversary this month with a host of achievements, including its commitment to promote sustainability in the community.
To commemorate welcoming more than 1.5 million guests to date, Sofitel The Palm Dubai will unveil a variety of exclusive dining and spa offers all month long.
Since its inauguration in 2013, Sofitel The Palm Dubai has welcomed guests originating from 215 countries and its 14 restaurants and lounges have served over 4.5 million customers. The resort’s sales team made 145 sales missions in 30 countries, visiting 63 cities, which sums up to total of over 1 million miles travelled by the team in the last five years, equivalent to flying 40 times around the globe.
Christophe Schnyder, General Manager commented: “We are proud to celebrate five years of guests best experiences, which is a result of our dedicated Ambassadors who tirelessly strive to providing memorable stays to our visitors from around the world.”
“We are grateful to every Ambassador who has contributed to our success story, and our loyal guests for whom Sofitel The Palm, is considered a home away from home.”
FIVE YEARS OF GOING GREEN
Since its debut, the resort has gone to great lengths to promote various green initiatives in the community, in line with the Emirate of Dubai’s vision to become the smartest, happiest and most sustainable city in the world. Throughout operations, Sofitel The Palm Dubai has committed to empowering guests and UAE residents to make sustainable decisions that contribute to protecting the environment and natural resources.
Looking at structures, the resort has 50% of its hot water generated through solar panels installed on the roof, covering an area of 530 square meters, and generating 2,200 kw of heat output per day. The entire air-conditioning condensation drains are connected to the irrigation tank which is recycled to be used for the resort’s landscaped areas covering 27,000 square meters.
Within the property, incandescent lamps have been completely phased out in public areas and guest rooms and replaced with energy-saving LED/CFL lamps. This has resulted in almost 1,000,000 kwh of energy being saved so far. Meanwhile, the consumption of energy units such as water, electricity, gas and diesel are continuously monitored in the resort, helping manage the resources and manpower more efficiently while delivering the required quality and service.
The resort operates an efficient recycling program, in line with AccorHotel’s Planet 21 - with 450 tons of paper and cardboard, 115 tons of plastic, and 145 tons of glass bottles so far recycled - which has resulted in almost 30% of resort waste being diverted from landfills. This has generated an environmental equivalent saving of 10,500 trees, over 2.5 million kwh of energy, over 4 million gallons of water, 36,500 pounds of air emissions, and 380,000 liters of oil.
Additionally, all hazardous waste, such as bulbs, batteries, chemical cans, and electronic waste is disposed of in a responsible manner through a government approved agency.
Finally, Sofitel The Palm Dubai is proudly committed to volunteer in community events and has taken part in initiatives including UAE Clean-Up Day, Earth Hour and Global Earth Day. It has also donated 480kg of used soap to developing countries through Soap for Hope Program.
FIVE YEARS OF TRANSFORMATIONS
As part of its commitment to adapt to an ever-changing hospitality market, Sofitel The Palm Dubai has continuously strived to enhance and upgrade its offerings to adapt to the needs of guests. Continuously committing to investing to ever-changing trends and needs, the resort has undergone a series of renovations since opening to ensure guests create memorable and lasting experiences.
The resort’s award-winning SoSPA has seen the addition of a Hammam and couples’ relaxation area, as well as the introduction of HydraFacialsTM, one of the first spas to offer this treatment in five-star hotels.
Meanwhile, an extension has been added to SoFIT gym to offer guests an outdoor gym experience with an MMA boxing ring and cross-fit stations.
Finally, Laguna Lounge was launched as a new outdoor dining venue with views overlooking the Palm, offering the perfect spot to sit back and enjoy the sunset.
Little guests haven’t been left out; additional kids facilities have been added to the popular kids’ club to cater to children of different ages.
Looking ahead, Sofitel The Palm Dubai is currently working on a new Middle Eastern restaurant, due to launch in 2019.

Sofitel The Palm Dubai is proud to employ Ambassadors and welcome guests from all over the world, including high-profile VIPs, celebrities and royalty.

Schnyder concluded: “We remain committed to offering our guests the most rewarding experiences in a relaxing environment for years to come. We are confident that, not only will we continue to innovate and lead by example, but we will also continue to commit to revolutionizing, and encouraging others in joining us to create change.”
