WAM -- Anthony Lake, Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), said his agency is willing to expand its partnership with the UAE, to realise the UAE leadership's aspirations for undertaking pioneering programmes for the welfare and wellbeing of children in the UAE.

Anthony Lake commended the efforts that are being exerted by H.H. Sheikha Fatma bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, for supporting children and women in the UAE and beyond.

Anthony Lake also thanked H.H. Sheikha Fatima for supporting the UNICEF resident office in the UAE and the organisation's programmes, especially in humanitarian affairs and natural disasters, during a meeting with Reem Al Falasi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

The meeting reviewed H.H. Sheikha Fatima’s initiatives in the areas of development and advancement, and the empowerment of Emirati women since the GWU was founded in 1976.

Al Falasi welcomed co-operation with UNICEF in implementing joint strategic programmes to support children.
