Wakame, a new Asian inspired restaurant and bar concept, is delighted to announce its official opening today. Culinary creativity and tranquility come together at this elegant retreat amidst one of the busiest cities in the world. Located within the arresting Sofitel Downtown Dubai, close to the Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa, the restaurant offers a wide range of dishes that break away from the stereotypes of Asian cooking, delivering pure flavours crafted from the finest ingredients.

Chef Lloyd Roberts has gained much recognition over the years for his distinctive flair to classic Pan Asian cuisine. A knowledgeable team of floor staff, whose wonderfully measured enthusiasm, discussing ingredients and techniques raises the Wakame experience to an even higher level. Diners have much to choose from, savouring a broad selection of dishes including Dim Sum, Wok, Large Plates, Maki and New Style Sashimi. One of the most popular items on the menu is Wakame’s Chilean Seabass; oven roasted with a jalapeño and ginger marinade. A must try for those with a sweet tooth is the Miso Caramel Cheesecake with a black sesame shortbread base, this gluten free dessert is beautiful to look at, decadent to eat and a reason to return.

Wakame’s interior is the brainchild of highly talented design expert Samantha Muhlbauer, with its expansive open-plan layout offering distinct bar, restaurant and private dining areas. Upon entry the eye is drawn to the focal points of the sushi and dim sum counters where the skillful team add a sense of human theatre to the visual feast. A key element of Samantha’s vision was to combine the contrasting elements of old and new, providing a fusion of themes that is consistent with the Wakame food offering. Contemporary notes are evident throughout, whilst a nod to the Asia of years past, can be felt with one-of-a-kind antique pieces, Samantha’s favourite being the 120 year old Chinese cupboard displayed in the private dining room.

For those who want a more casual experience, the Wakame bar area with its generous selection of handcrafted beverages is the place to be. An ambient soundscape is played throughout the evening by the resident DJ, who charges up the tempo as the night draws in, setting the tone for after hours mingling and encouraging a late finish.
