The UAE has announced Eid Al Fitr holiday dates for government sector employees across the country on Monday.

The holiday will begin on Shawwal 1 and end on Shawwal 3, 1446 AH, corresponding to the Gregorian calendar, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources stated.

If the holy month of Ramadan completes 30 days, then Ramadan 30 (Sunday, March 30) will be an official holiday added to the Eid Al Fitr holidays.

Moon sighting in the UAE will take place on March 29 with Islamic months lasting 29 or 30 days. Eid is celebrated on Shawwal 1, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

If the crescent is spotted on March 29, Eid Al Fitr will be on Sunday, March 30, as per the Georgian calendar. This will translate to three days of Eid Al Fitr holiday for government employees until April 1.

This will result in a four-day holiday from March 29 to April 1, as Saturday is a weekend for most employees across the country.

Meanwhile, if the Moon is not spotted on March 29 and Ramadan lasts 30 days, then the first day of Shawwal will fall on Monday, March 31. This will translate to a three-day Eid holiday from March 31 to April 2.

In this case, residents will get a five-day long weekend which will commence from March 29 to April 2.

Some government employees will get up to six days of holiday for Eid Al Fitr, since Friday is a weekend for public sector workers in Sharjah.

If Eid falls on Sunday, March 30, government employees in Sharjah will get a five-day holiday from Friday, April 28 to Tuesday, April 1. Whereas if the festival begins on Monday, March 31, these employees will get a six-day long weekend from Friday, March 28 to Wednesday, April 2.
