For those of us who have lived in Dubai for decades, this city is no longer a destination — it is home. As expatriates and long-term residents, we do not speak of Dubai as a temporary chapter in our lives. We speak of it as our land, our nation — the place where our children were raised, where our ambitions were realized, where friendships became family, and where belonging became real.

For 35 years, both as a journalist and as a resident, I have lived under one constant certainty: safety. Beyond the remarkable skyline, beyond the innovation and the luxury that captivate the world, what truly anchors the soul to this country is the profound sense of security. The quiet confidence that tomorrow will unfold in stability. The assurance that institutions function, leadership is present, and systems are built not only for prosperity — but for protection. The past days have felt unfamiliar. Unusual measures have been introduced. Airspaces monitored more closely. Systems activated with heightened vigilance. A region under tension inevitably touches even the most prepared nations. Yet what we have witnessed is not fear — it is discipline. Not confusion — but coordination. The Ministry of Defense and the armed forces have demonstrated readiness and precision. Government entities have moved swiftly, calmly, and decisively. One of the most remarkable gestures has been the decision allowing tourists and visitors staying in UAE hotels to extend their stays free of charge, with the government covering the cost. It is a humanitarian decision that reflects not only efficiency, but values. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority reassured residents of uninterrupted services and full preparedness. Telecommunications providers communicated stability and continuity. In times of uncertainty, clarity becomes strength — and Dubai has provided both. Life today carries a different rhythm. There is heightened awareness. A deeper attentiveness in conversations. A collective sense that history is unfolding around us. And yet, there is no panic in the streets. No disorder. No loss of confidence. What we are witnessing is the result of years of institution-building, of visionary planning, of leadership that understands that security is the foundation upon which prosperity stands. For those of us who have given decades of our lives to this country — and who have received so much in return — these days have not shaken our faith. On the contrary, they have strengthened it. Because belonging is not tested in times of celebration. It is tested in moments of uncertainty. And in these moments, we realize something profound: Dubai is not simply where we live. It is where we feel protected. It is where we feel considered. It is where we feel that our future matters. In a restless region, this city continues to offer something rare — not just opportunity, but reassurance. Not just ambition, but care. And perhaps that is why, even when the world around us trembles, our hearts here remain steady.
