Dubai’s cultural landscape reaches a significant milestone this year as Art Dubai 2026 opens its doors at Madinat Jumeirah with a special anniversary edition celebrating two decades of artistic and creative development in the United Arab Emirates. Running from 15 to 17 May 2026, the event offers free public access thanks to the support of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority.

This landmark edition pays tribute to the artists, galleries, institutions and cultural leaders who have played a central role in shaping the UAE’s thriving creative industries over the past 20 years. Featuring more than 100 presentations from commercial galleries, institutional participants and cultural partners, the fair reflects both Art Dubai’s rich history and its ongoing commitment to innovation and international dialogue.

Held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the fair continues to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global cultural destination. Art Dubai is presented in partnership with A.R.M. Holding, while lifestyle developer HUNA joins as a key partner.

According to Benedetta Ghione, Art Dubai has evolved far beyond the traditional concept of an art fair. Over the years, it has become an international platform that mirrors Dubai’s own transformation into a major cultural hub. She emphasized that the anniversary edition highlights the power of long-term collaboration and the importance of culture in bringing communities together at a time when meaningful connections matter more than ever.

The 2026 programme brings together contemporary, modern and digital art practices, showcasing both internationally renowned galleries and regional institutions that have shaped the Middle East’s artistic ecosystem. Several first-time exhibitors are also joining the fair this year, reflecting Art Dubai’s openness to emerging voices and new perspectives. In response to the current challenges facing galleries worldwide, the fair has introduced an innovative risk-sharing model, allowing booth fees to be linked to commercial success.

Dunja Gottweis described the anniversary edition as a reflection of Art Dubai’s unique identity — deeply rooted in Dubai while maintaining strong global connections. She noted that the fair presents a wide diversity of artistic perspectives, from modern masters to experimental digital works, further reinforcing Dubai’s role as the center of the region’s art market.

Beyond the gallery presentations, visitors can experience an ambitious cultural programme developed in collaboration with some of the UAE’s leading institutions, including Alserkal Avenue, Art Jameel, Barjeel Art Foundation, Dubai Collection, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Sharjah Art Foundation.

Among the highlights is “Made Forward,” an exhibition from the Dubai Collection featuring modern and contemporary artworks from the city’s first institutional art collection. Another major exhibition, “Pulse,” presents masterpieces of modern Arab art from the Barjeel Art Foundation, including works by celebrated artists such as Mahmoud Said, Samia Halaby, Mohamed Melehi and Safeya Binzagr.

The programme also includes large-scale installations, performances and site-specific commissions by artists including Khalid Al Banna, Hashel Al Lamki, Kevork Mourad and Sudarshan Shetty. A moving-image programme titled “Moving,” co-curated with Alserkal Avenue, showcases works by 13 artists across both venues.

Performance art also takes center stage with “Against Stillness,” a programme presented with the Sharjah Art Foundation featuring artists and performers including Muhanad Kareem and Safa Baluchi.

One of the fair’s flagship events, the 20th edition of the Global Art Forum, returns under the title “Before and After Everything,” commissioned by Shumon Basar. The forum continues its tradition of exploring pressing cultural, social and technological issues through discussions with leading thinkers and creatives.

Meanwhile, the HUNA Talks series gathers influential voices from across the creative industries to examine how art shapes modern identity, communication and community life. Visitors can also explore the return of DXB Store, originally launched at Art Dubai in 2011, which presents newly commissioned works and design objects by UAE-based artists, makers and collectives.

Reflecting on the curatorial vision behind this year’s programme, Alexie Glass-Kantor explained that the concept of “things we do together” served as a guiding principle for the event. Through exhibitions, conversations, performances and informal gathering spaces, the fair aims to create meaningful dialogue between artists, institutions and audiences.

As Art Dubai celebrates its 20th anniversary, the fair not only honours its past achievements but also looks toward the future of artistic collaboration in the UAE and beyond. With its blend of regional identity and global engagement, the event continues to demonstrate the growing influence of Dubai as one of the world’s most dynamic cultural capitals.
