UAE Cabinet announces AI Curriculum for schools to prepare next generation

The UAE Cabinet has approved the expansion of an artificial intelligence curriculum to all public and private schools across the country, as part of efforts to prepare the next generation for an AI-driven future.

The decision was announced following a Cabinet meeting chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The curriculum will teach students about AI, data, algorithms, applications and potential risks, while also developing awareness of the ethical use of the technology.

The programme was previously piloted and evaluated in public schools, where it produced “positive results”. AI was introduced as an official subject in UAE public schools from the 2025/26 academic year, covering students from kindergarten through Grade 12.

Sheikh Mohammed said the UAE is among the pioneering countries to have developed integrated AI curricula across all educational levels. The Cabinet also approved a mechanism to make the curriculum and its components available to education ministries and the international education community.

22,000 Educators to receive AI training

The Cabinet also reviewed a programme to develop teachers’ and educators’ capabilities through AI tools. Around 22,000 teachers and educators will be trained to use AI to support teaching, assessment, curriculum analysis, lesson planning and innovation among students.

Sheikh Mohammed said rapid technological change would transform education and require teachers to continuously develop their skills.

“Teachers will have to become lifelong learners,” he said, stressing that educating children with yesterday’s methods could deprive them of the opportunities of the future.
