The National -- Some 250 vehicles and 500 police personnel will be deployed to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of the cyclists participating in the Dubai Tour 2018, which will begin on Tuesday.
Officials from the Dubai Sports Council, Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiled traffic plans during a press conference on Sunday to streamline movement to ensure all roads are clear and safe for cyclists while traveling 851 kilometers across the emirates.
Hundreds of cyclists from various nationalities will take part in the tour, which features five stages across five days from February 6 to 10. Cyclists will start the tour at 11.10am continuing until 3.30pm daily.
As per the plan, each road will be closed to traffic for approximately five to ten minutes while the riders pass through to ensure cyclists safety. Motorists are urged to use alternative routes suggested to avoid temporary road closures.
The tour will kick off on Tuesday from Skydive Dubai at King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud Street and passes through Dubai Police Academy and ends at Palm Jumeirah.
