WAM -- Nearly 2.4 million people are expected to visit the Astana Expo 2017, according to a forecast by the organisers.

"It is expected that 2.4 million people will visit the exhibition, out of which 15 percent will be foreign tourists," Ilya Urazakov, Director of the Department for Work with International Participants of the Astana Expo, told journalists as quoted by Kazinform international news agency.

"It is clear that the lion's share of visitors, about 70 percent, will come from nearby countries. We expect about 150,000 - 200,000 people to come from China, as Chinese travel agencies are very interested in the exhibition.

"Around 150,000 – 200,000 are expected to come from far abroad, from countries in Europe, North America and so on. Unfortunately, there is no breakdown available of this number," Urazakov said during a presser in the Italian pavilion.

He said that they are now calculating which countries and how many people are purchasing tickets. Within the framework of the exhibition, over 3,000 cultural events, 40 scientific conferences and major forums, as well as 126 national days will be held.

The Expo 2017 will be held in Astana between 10th June and 10th September, 2017.
