Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building developed by Dubai’s Emaar Properties, lit up on 24 September 2019 ahead of the UAE’s foray into space, which was marked by Emirati astronaut Hazza Al Mansouri blasting off into space aboard the Soyuz MS-15 spaceflight on a mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

The 828m-tall Emaar building featured a digital display “for the UAE’s historical launch” to the ISS.

ISS is a space station in low Earth orbit launched in 1998, and is a joint project between five participating space agencies – the US’s Nasa, Russia’s Roscosmos, Japan’s JAXA, Europe’s ESA, and Canada’s CSA.

The UAE became the 19th visiting country aboard the space station.
