Saudi Arabia names Princess Reema bint Bandar as its first female ambassador

Saudi Arabia has appointed Princess Reema bint Bandar as its diplomatic representative to the US – the first female ambassador in the history of the kingdom.

In a series of royal decrees issued by Saudi Arabia late on Saturday, Riyadh named its current envoy to Washington, Prince Khalid bin Salman, as deputy minister of defence with the ranking of minister. Another decision allocated a bonus of a month's salary to soldiers fighting to the south at the Saudi border with Yemen.

UAE buys Russia’s Kornet, Pantsir missile systems

The United Arab Emirates’ Armed Forces have purchased Russia’s Kornet-EM anti-tank missile systems and Pantsir surface-to-air missile systems, UAE Brigadier General Mohammed Hassaini told TASS on Sunday.

Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld dies aged 85

Largerfeld, who was the creative director of Chanel, missed his label's Paris Fashion Week show in January because he was unable to attend.

The designer died on Tuesday. A source at the fashion house later confirmed his death to Reuters.

French fashion website Pure People reported that he died at the American Hospital in Paris after being admitted the day before.

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority today announced its consolidated results for the full year of 2018. The authority launched its first three-year destination strategy in 2016 outlining the vision and mission for tourism in the emirate, with the goal of attracting 1 million visitors to Ras Al Khaimah by 2018. The emirate has exceeded these targets with a reported 1,072,066 visitors from domestic and key international markets choosing to stay in Ras Al Khaimah during 2018.
