Stolen Dh73 million diamond recovered after Dubai Police operation (Video)

A rare blue diamond worth Dh73 million ($20 million) that was stolen by a transport vehicle worker has been recovered by Dubai Police.

The thief planned to smuggle the precious stone out of the country in his shoe before being foiled by officers.

The 9.33 carat gem was stolen from the safe of a vehicle while in transit. Officers said they believed the thief had been plotting the crime for several weeks.

First lake of liquid water discovered on Mars

AFP -- A massive underground lake has been detected for the first time on Mars, raising the possibility that more water – and maybe even life – exists there, international astronomers said Wednesday.

Located under a layer of Martian ice, the lake is about 12 miles (20 kilometers) wide, said the report led by Italian researchers in the US journal Science.

It is the largest body of liquid water ever found on the Red Planet.

Saudi Arabia suspends oil exports through Red Sea lane after Houthi attack

Saudi Arabia said on Thursday that it was “temporarily halting” all oil shipments through the strategic Red Sea shipping lane of Bab Al-Mandeb after an attack on two big oil tankers by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement.

Saudi energy minister Khalid Al-Falih said in a statement sent by his ministry that the Houthis had attacked two Saudi Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) in the Red Sea on Wednesday morning, one of which sustained minimal damage.

The number of Chinese tourists to Dubai have more than doubled in the past four years, according to new figures released on the eve of a visit by President Xi Jinping.

Since 20th June, the UAE has provided 18,943 food baskets in addition to 432 boxes of mineral water to protect public health and prevent any diseases caused by non-potable water distributed to 27 districts and areas in Hodeidah.
