WAM - Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), arrived in Astana yesterday on an official visit to Kazakhstan, following an invitation by the Chairman of Kazkhstan's House of Representatives, Baktykozha Izmukhambetov.
During her visit, Dr. Al Qubaisi will attend an international conference, entitled "Religions against Terrorism", in Astana. The visit will also include the inaugural meeting of the UAE-Kazakhstan Parliamentary Friendship Council.
Dr. Al Qubaisi and the accompanying delegation kicked off their visit with a tour of the Masjid Hazrat Sultan, the largest mosque in Central Asia, with its dome measuring 51 meters high and 28.1 meters wide. The mosque also has four minarets, each 77 meters high.
The mosque can accommodate 5,000 worshippers, and up to 9,000 during the holidays.
Further, Dr. Al Qubaisi and the delegation were briefed about the mosque's history, facilities and the events held there during religious holidays.
