Residents and visitors from around the world have been thoroughly enjoying themselves at the plethora of events and activities that have been rolled out during the 21st edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival by the organizers, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), with the malls in particular being a favourite of families seeking rewarding shopping experiences.
With several events designed to reflect the DSF 2016 tagline ‘Unwrap The Exceptional’, City Centre Deira of Majid Al Futtaim Properties, a Strategic Partner of DFRE, has been enticing shoppers to make the most of their time in Dubai at the more than 370 stores located at the mall, by availing themselves of amazing discounts and promotions, and joining in the world-class entertainment activities.
Elizabeth Latifah, a 27-year old Tanzanian, said: “I am used to visiting Dubai during DSF. To me, it’s more than just a shopping experience; it gives me an outlook on the advancement and progression that Dubai has achieved in such a brief time period. It’s also a great chance to unwind and have fun.”
“In the past two days, I have spent around AED 6000. I have less than a week to go before I have to be back in Tanzania. I am sure my family and friends will love the gifts I’m bringing back for them. They are all quite jealous of my trip and are also yearning to visit DSF.”
Mohamed Arfan, a Pakistani national employed in the retail sector is visiting Dubai with his son Zahir. He has been planning this trip for months as he has visited the festival three years in a row. “This is the first time I have brought my son with me as I really wanted to have him witness the beauty of Dubai and the amazing things that take place during DSF. I bought everything from clothes and watches to shoes and electronics. I must have spent around 20,000 dirhams. I chose City Centre Deira because it’s closest to where I stay and I because I like its vibe.”
Wessam Boufaridiah is from Algeria and works in the beauty industry alongside her mum, Samia Boufaridiah. During their annual visit to Dubai, Wessam had decided to do some shopping, saying: “A lot of Algerians come to Dubai during the Dubai Shopping Festival. I prefer City Centre Deira because it has better prices, which is especially important to me this year as our Algerian currency has weakened. Despite that, I am planning on buying as much as I can because DSF is a chance that is not to be missed.”
In addition to the unbeatable deals and promotions, City Centre Deira also has two main activations - Butterflies and Golden Circus – which have also become great photo opportunities for children and families. The Butterflies are roaming the mall letting children stand beneath their amazingly colourful wings to capture brilliant memories. The Golden Circus is performed three times per day and has been popular amongst shoppers as well.
Syrian sisters – Maram, a 27 year old engineering graduate and Areej, a medical student both live in Dubai and always keep tabs on sales in the malls. Maram says, “I grew up in City Centre Deira! Even though I don’t live near it I just love it. Our shopping budget is 5000 dirhams and this is our second day shopping here at City Centre Deira.”
Ras Al Khaimah resident, Majed Hamad, who was in Dubai to spend the day with his family and to shop at a few malls, said: “Dubai trips are a weekly routine, whether I come alone or with my family and whether I come for entertainment, partying, or shopping. DSF discounts are great and very tempting especially to women. I prefer City Centre Deira because they always have a stock of the products I’m looking for.”
