A real-life experience of Dubai 360 (www.dubai360.com), the world’s largest online interactive city tour has been unveiled to the public in The Dubai Mall. Titled, ‘The Sphere at The Dubai Mall’, the first of its kind installation in the Middle East, will be located in the Star Atrium of the city’s iconic shopping destination. The groundbreaking installation is a 15 metre diameter spherical projection theatre, built by San Francisco based Obscura Digital. The experience showcases Dubai’s pioneering spirit by integrating smart and innovative ideas with technology to promote the wonders of the City to its residents and visitors.

Open for public viewing at no cost, visitors to The Sphere will witness cutting-edge technology on display from the moment they step inside. Inside The Sphere, visitors will be taken to a viewing bridge, seven meters high, where they will witness films innovatively shot in 360 degrees, creating a real experience of Dubai. Powered by 18 projectors running simultaneously, The Sphere will showcase the city, including iconic locations like Burj Khalifa and the Palm Jumeirah, in a way never seen before.

“The launch of Dubai 360 established new standards for how people experience a city, and The Sphere is another extension of that experience. The basic idea behind ‘The Sphere’ was to create a physical space whereby we take the high-quality panoramic content from the Dubai 360 website and present it in a unique way to offer a fully immersive journey. This is truly a wonderful experience, for which I’d like to thank the teams at The Dubai Mall, Obscura Digital and Dubai 360 who have worked tirelessly on this project” said Ismaeil Al Hashmi, Project Manager for Dubai 360.

The Sphere at The Dubai Mall integrates best-in-class technology with the spectacular vistas of Dubai to provide a never-before seen experience. As the world’s most-visited retail and entertainment destination, The Dubai Mall continues to be a platform for innovative lifestyle and entertainment experiences for its visitors.

With a capacity of approximately 300 people per hour, The Sphere will be open to the public, free of charge until 18th March, 2015 in Dubai Mall. Timings for The Sphere will be in line with Dubai Mall’s running hours.
