WAM – The UAE continues to be the gateway between East and the West, as seen by the large number of international participants at the 36th GITEX Technology Week (GITEX 2016), noted H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, while opening the event at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Sunday.
The large number of local participants also reflects a shift in thinking, innovation and performance which will empower the UAE's shift to smart government, enhance innovation in all sectors and help transform the UAE into the fastest growing and the happiest country in the world, he further said.
Some 4000 participants from 60 countries are showcasing the latest technologies at GITEX, the largest technology exchange and marketplace for the Middle East and Africa.
Accompanied by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and senior officials, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed began his tour from the stand of the UAE telecommunications operator Etisalat.
He also stopped at the stands of participating global technology corporations including Samsung, Microsoft, Dell Emc, Intel, pavilions of Nigeria and Germany, as well as local government entities such as Smart Dubai.
