Khaleej Times -- Motorists involved in minor accidents in Abu Dhabi will be fined Dh500 from December 1 if they fail to move their vehicle off the road.
Police said the penalty was being imposed to reduce traffic congestion and was a follow-up to a safety campaign that began last week.
“A number of serious accidents have occurred due to motorists refusing to move their vehicles after an accident,” said Brig Gen Al Shehi, deputy director of the Directorate of traffic and patrols Abu Dhabi Police.
He said motorists in cars that stalled due to mechanical failure or flat tyres should also move their vehicle to the nearest safe location to avoid fines.
Attempting to change a tyre while the vehicle blocked a busy road would create further trouble as other motorists tried to avoid the car, he said.
The capital’s police force warned residents to remove cars from the main road in a campaign with Saaed that began last week.
