Mobile radars to be installed on key Sharjah roads

Gulf News -- Sharjah Police will soon install mobile speed radars on key Sharjah roads.

The move follows after repeated speed-limit violations by motorists were spotted by the police. The radars will be installed on Maliha Road, Al Dhaid Road and Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road.

The move is to protect the lives of motorists and road users, police said.

Sharjah Police posted on their Instgram account a video explaining the decision.

On May 2017, Sharjah Police installed 30 new smart radars across the emirate’s roads.

The new tube-shaped radars will target primarily speeding motorists and aggressive tailgaters but can also track a long list of traffic violations, said police.

Sharjah Police’s new radar can catch different traffic violations at the same time, including vehicles going slower than the minimum speed, vehicles not leaving enough distance between other vehicles, heavy vehicles not abiding by their designated lanes, heavy vehicles that are on the road outside their designated timings and vehicles driving on the hard shoulder.

The new radars are so intelligent that they are programmed to watch traffic from both sides of the road and catch more than one violation at the same time in either direction.

The new radar is fitted with 3G technology that instantly sends data such as licence plate numbers directly to the traffic department.

The new radar units have been installed on five key roads: Maliha, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Al Ittihad and Sharjah-Al Dhaid roads, all of which, witnessed multiple traffic accidents.
