The National -- A new beachfront in Dubai is opening next week, providing shops and restaurants in Jumeirah 1 and becoming the seventh completed Meraas development in the emirate.
La Mer will be home to shopping, entertainment and dining venues spread over three areas across 13.4 million square feet of existing and reclaimed land between Pearl Jumeirah and Jumeirah Bay.
The design of La Mer South, North and The Wharf is inspired by driftwood and natural elements and is surrounded by 2.5km of sandy beaches, a short distance from Etihad Museum and Dubai Water Canal. A second phase of the project due to open in early 2018 will provide a surf park for visitors.
The first phase comprises La Mer North and La Mer South, which has over 130 hundred shops, cafés, restaurants, and beach activities, that act as a meeting point for people to enjoy a great time, whether they are visiting La Mer to eat, play or unwind.
The second phase of La Mer, The Wharf, incorporates rusty steelworks and an industrial aesthetics, with a waterpark, cinema, additional shops, cafés and restaurants. These additions are scheduled to open at the start of 2018. At a later stage, there will also be a hotel and residential community located on two man-made peninsulas.
“La Mer reaffirms our commitment to contribute to Dubai Tourism Vision 2020 by diversifying what Dubai has to offer,” said Abdulla Al Habbai, group chairman at Meraas.
“It has already proven a popular location for some of the world’s top brands, and will strengthen Dubai’s position as a global shopping and tourist city. With a host of new and novel experiences, residents and visitors will also find an alluring proposition to explore and enjoy.”
