NMC’s Board of Directors discusses preparations for Expo 2017 Astana

WAM -- The National Media Council’s, NMC, Board of Directors has held a meeting to discuss ongoing preparations for the UAE’s upcoming participation at Expo 2017 Astana, which begins on 10th June, 2017, under the theme, ‘Future Energy’.

Members of the Board explored the plans that have been put in place to reinforce the UAE’s leading international position and communicate the country’s achievements through its pavilion at Expo 2017 Astana, which is supervised and managed by NMC.

The meeting was headed by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Media Council. The Board Members in attendance included Nora Mohammed Al Kaabi, Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Mona Al Marri, Ahmed Al Jarmin, Dr. Amina Al Rostamani and Moza Ali Al Hameli. Also present at the meeting was Mansour Al Mansouri, Director-General of the National Media Council.

During the meeting, the board reviewed the NMC’s plans for supervising the construction of the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, and explored ways to develop innovative content that reflects the UAE’s advancements across multiple fields, and in line with the country’s national vision.

Participants at the meeting discussed the latest developments and preparations for the events that will be carried out to mark the ‘#Year of Giving’, and to underline the media sector’s critical role in supporting national initiatives. This includes such key initiatives as the ‘Giving’ smart application, supervised by the Abu Dhabi Media Company, the ‘Creativity and Innovation Competition for Giving’, organised by twofour54, ‘Influencers for Good’, supervised by the Dubai Press Club, and the ‘Knights for Good’ initiative, as well as the ‘Journalists for Good’ initiative, which aims to consolidate media efforts across all outlets to amplify the sector’s influence in the country.

In March 2017, the NMC organised the ‘Walk to Give’ initiative which witnessed the participation of more than 2,000 individuals and aimed to rally the media sector in support of the ‘Year of Giving’ while highlighting the sector’s supporting role in promoting charity and volunteer work.

Commenting on the meeting, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said, "The UAE has a leading international position and has registered major achievements across multiple fronts, forging strong partnerships along the way. This in line with the UAE leadership’s future-focused outlook, while the country’s participation in Expo 2017 Astana reaffirms its central role in paving the way to a better future for the entire world."

"The UAE has always been at the forefront of innovation in future energy," Al Jaber added. "This important global expo is an opportunity to showcase the country’s achievements in strategic sectors, particularly in the field of energy and water security and achieving sustainable development in order to build a better world for tomorrow’s generations."

Al Jaber concluded, "As part of the NMC’s important role and responsibility to communicate the UAE’s successes to the world, we seek to transform our pavilion into a platform that showcases our country’s investments in the future, investments that benefit the UAE and the rest of the world."

The meeting went on to cover a number of other topics including the NMC’s recent achievements, operational duties and the latest developments to upgrade the Emirates News Agency, in addition to a range of topics pertaining to the broader media sector.
