All proceeds from the sale of the number plates and phone numbers will go to the One Billion Meals campaign
Dubai’s ‘P 7’ number plate has set a new record as the most expensive license plate in the world after a bidder paid Dh55 million ($15 million) for it.
The auction, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jumeirah, was organised by Emirates Auction, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, Etisalat and Du, and raised nearly AED100 million ($27 million) for the One Billion Meals campaign, which aims to combat global hunger.
The ‘P 7’ plate attracted a bidding war between several people who were keen to break the existing record set in 2008 when a businessman paid AED52.2 million for Abu Dhabi’s number 1 plate.
