President of Kazakhstan opens Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan School in Astana

WAM -- President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan opened the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan School in the Kazakh capital, Astana yesterday.

Present on the occasion were Mohammed Haji Khouri, Director General of the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, Yerlan Sagadiyev, Kazakh Minister of Education and Science, Asset Issekeshev, Governor of Astana, and a number of senior officials.

President Nazarbayev thanked President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his generous contribution to build the school which has become a landmark and a symbol of education in Kazakhstan.

"This school was built as a gift of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for which I express my gratitude to him," said the President of Kazakhstan.

He said the opening of the new school coincided with the anniversary of Kazakhstan independence, noting that during the years of independence, the state had made many efforts for the development of education and establishment of appropriate infrastructure.

Khouri thanked President Nazarbayev for opening the school, which was built at a total cost of AED 40 million. He said the school was built as part of the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation's projects and under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The new school, spread over a total area of 37,000 square metres, has been designed for 1,200 students, and has 58 classrooms.

The infrastructure of the educational institution includes a library with a reading room, assembly hall with 300 seats, a gym, a running track, as well as football, basketball and volleyball fields.
