The National -- A motorist in Ras Al Khaimah accumulated more than one million dirham in traffic fines this year, police said on Wednesday.
The feat sets the record for the most traffic offences committed by a single driver over the past few years, according to the commander-in-chief of RAK Police.
“Radars managed to detect the offenses that the driver committed which includes speeding and other violations,” said Maj Gen Ali Al Nuaimi.
The motorist was allowed a 50 per cent discount on the total fine as part of celebrations marking International Happiness Day on March 20.
Maj Gen Al Nuaimi said the second highest accumulation of traffic fines this year was Dh250,000 against another motorist.
Details regarding either motorist were not disclosed but Maj Gen Al Nuaimi said both drivers paid their fines.
